I’M AT HOMESTAY. I WANT TO ASK SOMETHING TO MY HOST FAMILY, BUT I CANNOT COMMUNICATE WELL IN JAPANESE...
Our host families are experienced hosts and used to international students, so try using gestures, and mix in English and Japanese you learned at school. You will be surprised how fast your Japanese will improve.
We also recommend using some translation apps, such as Google Translate or LINE Translation.
If you have any issues and need support, our staff will be happy to support you in communicating with your host.
CAN I CHANGE THE HOST FAMILY?
Yes, you can.
However, before changing your host family, let's discuss what you're not satisfied with. Our accomodation coordinators will discuss this with you and your host family, and then figure out the best solution.
I HAVE A PROBLEM WITH MY ROOMMATE.
Please have in mind that all students have their unique culture and we need to respect each other’s differences.
Try communicating with your roommate directly and try to find a common ground.
If you still need support after speaking to your roommate, please speak to one of the EF staff.
WHAT IF I WILL NOT COME FOR DINNER WITH MY HOST FAMILY?
If you will not need dinner at your host family’s place, please let them know.
