APPLYING FOR VISA EXTENSION

If your passport is from any of the following countries, you are eligible for visa extension of an additional 90 days.

  • Mexico

  • Austria

  • Germany

  • Ireland

  • Liechtenstein

  • Switzerland

  • United Kingdom

Step 1:

Collect and fill out Application for Extension of Period of Stay

You can collect the application form for visa extension from the front desk. There are also samples for how you can fill out the form.

Step 2:

Check form with front desk staff
Come to the front desk with the completed form to check that everything is written correctly.

Step 3:

Take the form and passport to the Immigration Bureau
The Tokyo Regional Immigration Bureau is open from 9AM to 4PM on weekdays. It is recommended to go at 9AM on a day when you do not have morning classes to avoid long wait times. Please tell the reception on the first floor that you would like to apply for extension of period of stay so that they can direct you for where to go.

Step 4:

Payment
The staff that take your passport and forms will tell you how much you will need to pay for the visa. It is currently 6,000 yen. In order to pay this fee, you need to go to the convenience store on the 1st floor of the building and purchase 6,000 yen in stamps. There is a queue specifically for this on the right of the convenience store counter. After purchasing the stamps, you can bring it back up to the office and exchange it for your passport.

Step 5:

Send a picture of your new Landing Permission stamp
Your passport will have a new Landing Permission stamp. It is a pink and blue stamp with Mt. Fuji in the background. Please either show this to the staff at the EF front desk or send a photo of it to the EF Tokyo Student Services WhatsApp.
