Wi-Fi

In-room Wi-Fi
-
Your room has its own separate Wi-Fi. The ID and password are in the information booklet in your desk drawer (or on the desk/shelf).

It's also written on one of the electrical outlets on the wall with the window. It's small — take a photo of the outlet with your phone to zoom in and read the ID/password clearly.
-
If the ID doesn't show up on your device, there's a tiny button on that same outlet — press it to turn the Wi-Fi on, then check if a light comes on.

Lost the booklet? Ask the front desk for a new one. Please don't take the booklet home with you when you move out.
-
Still not working? Contact an RA. If they can't fix it, call the internet company (number is on the Wi-Fi page of the info booklet) — they speak English and will schedule a repair time, whether or not you're home, based on your preference.
Cafeteria
-
Purchase food using the vending machine only — cash only. (The key-card machine is for non-EF students; residents can't use it.)

Breakfast: ¥600, weekdays 6:30–9:30 a.m.

Dinner: ¥800, weekdays 6:30 a.m.–9:30 p.m. (order by 9:30 p.m.; cafeteria closes at 10 p.m.)

No lunch service.

Insert money into the machine → get a ticket → hand the ticket to the counter staff → receive your food. Sample dishes are displayed on the tables (breakfast set, or dinner sets A/B/C).
Laundry — Change Machine
-
Laundry machines take 100 yen coins only. Wrong coins can jam the machine.
-
Use the change machine near the cafeteria: ¥1,000 → 10 coins, or ¥500 → 5 coins.
Water Server
-
Located near the cafeteria; cups/glasses available during food hours for cold or hot water (may have extra filtration).
-
All tap water in the building, including bathroom taps, is safe to drink.
Kitchen
-
You can use the shared kitchen on your own floor, or the one downstairs — you cannot enter floors you don't live on (key access required).
-
Plates, pots, and pans are in the drawers and free to use, but cannot be taken to your room.
-
Cook and eat in the kitchen, wash dishes there, dry with paper towels, and put items away.
-
Microwave, hot water boiler, and rice cookers are available.
-
Microwave safety: many microwaves double as ovens and have metal trays inside. Never run microwave mode with a metal tray inside — it can spark and start a fire. Always check first.

Stove use: always turn on the fan when cooking (the light is optional).
-
Cooking oil disposal: never pour oil down the sink (it has clogged pipes before and caused a building-wide water outage). Instead, take a free newspaper from the cubbies, crumple it, pour the oil in, wrap it up, and throw it in burnable garbage.
In-Building Vending / Delivery App

Some vending-style delivery kiosks require a Japanese phone number and a Japanese online payment platform to use the app — most residents won't be able to use these.

Drink vending machines accept Suica/Pasmo (or any IC transit card) or cash — food items are app-only.
-
The nearest 7-Eleven is a 4-minute walk away — good for trash bags, detergent, snacks, and drinks.
Rental ("Borrow") System
-
Everything in the rental system is free — you're borrowing, not paying.
-
To rent: tap your key card → tap "Rent" → choose a category (Japanese with English labels) → select the item → confirm today's date → OK → return to home screen → tell staff the item number → receive the key/item.
-
Items include bicycles (fully insured), gym access, the multimedia room, cleaning tools, irons, and more.
-
Maximum rental period is 12 hours.
-
Bicycles must not be used for commuting to school.
-
To return: tap your key card → tap "Return" → confirm the date → OK → return to home screen → hand back the key.
Smoking
-
No smoking anywhere inside the building.
-
The only permitted smoking area is under the designated umbrella outside.
Packages & Deliveries
-
The entrance phone/intercom system is used by delivery drivers (Amazon, family, etc.) to reach your room.
-
If you're not available (e.g., cooking in the kitchen), the package is not left at the desk — it returns to the shipping center, and a redelivery slip with a QR code is left in your mailbox.
-
Rescheduling a delivery normally requires a Japanese phone number — you can use the front desk's phone number instead: 044-434-2161 — and choose your preferred date/time (you must be in your room then).
-
For an important/urgent package, fill out a form at the front desk in advance so staff will hold it for you (a new form is needed for each package). When it arrives, the front desk screen will show that packages are ready for pickup.
Garbage Disposal
-
Access the outdoor garbage area by tapping your key card.
-
Unlike most of Japan, this residence accepts all garbage types 24/7 — staff sort timing for collection day.
-
Plastics: must be completely clean (no residue, no stickers) and bagged in a clear bag (available at 7-Eleven, ¥100 for 20 bags). Dirty plastic goes in burnable instead.
-
Burnable: clothing, food waste, dirty/fused plastic, paper, pizza boxes, and anything else that burns. Must also be bagged in a clear bag.
-
Never put plastic drinking (PET) bottles in burnable or plastics — they have a separate bin (see below).
-
No bag required: glass bottles, cans, PET bottles, and spray bottles (must be fully emptied — spray it out at the drain first) go in their own designated bins.
-
Cardboard/paper bags: their own bin (pizza boxes are the exception — those go in burnable).
-
Small metal/electronics (under 13 cm): separate bin, including batteries and power banks.
-
A Tupperware bin is also available.
Laundry Rooms
-
Two laundry rooms: Men's (open) and Women's (requires key card).
-
The cleaning company does not wash your towels or sheets — you wash your own towels.
-
Sheets: put dirty sheets in the blue bag; take clean replacement sheets for free from the shelf. Pillowcases are also on that shelf (look carefully — they resemble sheets).

Washing machines (300 yen, both types do the same thing):
-
Dark blue machine: press the cleaning button first (15-second self-clean) → open, add clothes and detergent → insert ¥300 to start.
-
Light blue machine: insert ¥300 first → press the button within 10 seconds → it self-cleans → then opens and starts filling with water quickly, so add clothes and detergent right away.
-
Downstairs machines are 7 kg (same ¥300 price as the 5 kg machines on residential floors) — better value for large loads.
-
Dryers: downstairs dryers are gas (recommended — they work well); the electric dryers on the upper floors work poorly.
-
¥100 per 10 minutes. A full load typically needs ~30 minutes (¥300).
-
Modes: High heat (finishes in ~30 min, default/recommended), Delicates (low heat, longer, for a few precious items), and a Blanket setting.
-
Same self-clean-then-start process as the washers.
-
Free laundry detergent (including pods) is usually available in the Reuse Room — check there before buying your own.
Gym
-
Access via the rental system (front desk) — not reservable, first-come first-served, up to 3 people at once.
-
To use it alone, flip the sign to "Occupied."
-
Includes a scale — great for weighing luggage when moving out (please don't take the scale to your room).
Reuse Room
-
Free items left behind by former residents — take anything: furniture, detergent, shampoo/conditioner, coat hangers, etc.
-
When you leave and want to donate items, you may leave almost anything except: food, used clothing, medicine, and broken items.
Multimedia Room
-
Usable anytime as a quiet study space (no talking) without needing to book it.
-
To talk, watch a movie, or use the projector, you must book it through the rental system (room must be empty first).
-
Movable walls can double the room's size.
-
Movie nights happen roughly once a month, with free snacks/drinks — otherwise no food or drink is allowed inside.
-
Copy machine accepts Suica, Pasmo, or cash, and can print from online or a USB stick. Alternatively, send your file to your RA via WhatsApp for 7-Eleven printing.
House Rules
-
Alcohol: not allowed anywhere on the premises (including in rooms, regardless of age) — this is an EF-specific rule stricter than the building's own policy. Also no drinking outside, in the courtyard, or in the nearby park (police have been called for noise there before).

Shoes: remove shoes at your room's entryway; use the shoe rack provided.
-
Floors: don't enter floors you don't live on.
-
Visitors: no opposite-gender guests in rooms (no guys in girls' rooms, no girls in guys' rooms).
-
Curfew (residents under 18): send a live location share anytime after 8 p.m., and keep it live continuously until 4 a.m.
-
Toilet paper is distributed at the front desk from 8 p.m. daily (2 per person); message your RA if you run out.
Trains & IC Cards
-
Japanese train stations/ticket machines do not accept credit cards directly.
-
Pay with cash, Suica, or Pasmo. (iPhone users can add Suica/Pasmo to Apple Wallet and top up with a credit card — but the physical machines themselves require cash.)
-
International ATMs are available at 7-Eleven and post offices — use these to withdraw yen directly from your home country's bank account.
-
These ATMs do not exchange currency — you cannot insert your home country's cash to convert it into yen. It only works as a withdrawal from your own bank account (like an international debit/ATM card transaction).
Buying a Suica (at the Station)
-
Suica cards are purchased at the train station, not at 7-Eleven — use the black machine there (not green or pink).

Select English.
-
Choose "Purchase Suica" → "Blank Suica" (skip name/phone registration unless you have a Japanese number).
-
Select a charge amount (¥1,000–¥10,000). Note: ¥500 of this goes toward the physical card itself (e.g., a ¥10,000 charge gives you ¥9,500 usable).

Insert cash (multiple bills accepted).
-
Choose whether you want a receipt.
-
Your new Suica card is ejected once payment is complete.
